Sub-model to describe auto-ignition and combustion

Subject Area Technical Thermodynamics
Term from 2009 to 2015
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 129618955

In 'Sub-model to describe auto-ignition and combustion' a reduced model is developed to describe auto-ignition and combustion for the simulation of internal combustion processes. An over-all model is to develop from several models that describe the single phenomena (auto-ignition, 'hot' combustion) that are available from preliminary researches. The interaction between the single phenomena auto-ignition and flame propagation is also described by this model in a realistic way. The over-all model provides the chemical source-terms in a tabulated manner for a wide range of thermodynamic states and mixture conditions (ideal premixed, different levels of stratification), dependent on progress variable and additional quantities (e.g. pressure, enthalpy, air ratios, exhaust concentrations, intensity and direction of dissipation, and fluctuations). After validation of the over-all model due to comparison with detailed simulations it can be coupled with a LES code and used for simulations of internal combustion processes.
