Tribological DLC-coatings in combination with surface texturing for forming tools to increase lifetime and to improve process quality (B04)

Subject Area Engineering Design, Machine Elements, Product Development
Term from 2009 to 2020
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 68237143

Project Description

Carbon-based coatings – optionally combined with laser-generated microstructures – allow a process-adapted tribological design of sheet-bulk metal forming tools. To provide an extended lifetime of DLC-coated forming tools, the coating’s resistance to wear and fatigue is to be improved. An additional sensor function of the coatings to detect coating wear will ensure an individually determinable tool life. The coating’s contribution to locally adapted friction conditions will be analysed in model testing and forming processes.
