Our project is aimed at monitoring externally visible phenological changes of Scots pine at high latitudes in Finland during the growing season and linking these intra-annual changes with the internally proceeding cambium dynamics and the seasonal formation of water conducting cells, as well as trying to detect climatic driving forces behind these processes. Other features, such as wood density, lignification and ion content in the cambial zone are analysed for their potential in signalling climate effects. Based on these results, we will try to estimate changes of tree growth in boreal forests in view of the expected rise of temperature.
