Project Description

The structural determinants of plant potyvirus and metazoan cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection mechanisms will be characterized in A3. Higher oligomeric complexes formed by the CMV proteins IE1 and pUL50-pUL53 as well as plant potyvirus capsid proteins will be produced and crystallized. These crystallographic studies will be paralleled by fragment screening by X-ray crystallography efforts with available crystals of IE1 and pUL50-pUL53, crosslinking experiments and mutagenesis inquiries as well as in-depth studies by our collaborators from projects A2, A7, B3, C2 and C3.
